AI, Career Shifts, and Monday.com: A Boomer’s Perspective on the Future of Work

Navigating Career and Technological Change from a Boomer’s View: AI in Business with Monday.com

The world we live in today is fast-paced and technological advancements are happening at faster than we can blink. As a seasoned Baby Boomer business executive making a career shift into the realm of artificial intelligence (AI), I find myself both excited and apprehensive. The reality of AI is no longer confined to science fiction—it’s here, transforming businesses and redefining how we do life and work. One of the AI-driven tools that has significantly impacted my workflow is Monday.com.

What Topics Were Covered?

This week, my journey into Artificial Intelligence (AI) focused on understanding AI as an agent—a helper, technology designed to assist humans in completing repetitive tasks with efficiency and intelligence. AI agents are embedded into platforms like Monday.com, optimizing workflows, predicting needs, and enhancing collaboration.

Monday.com is not just a project management tool; it’s an AI-powered workforce automation platform that streamlines operations, enhances productivity, and provides real-time insights. In other word it is my administrative assistant. From assigning tasks to generating reports, AI plays a pivotal role in keeping businesses agile and efficient.

What Did I Learn?

One of the most striking realizations I had this week is that AI is not here to replace jobs but to enhance human capabilities. Monday.com integrates AI to automate much of my daily tasks that previously required hours of manual effort. Similarly, tools like ChatGPT have revolutionized the way businesses approach content creation, brainstorming, and customer support. I will confess that I have not fully come to terms with allowing ChatGPT to take charge of my writing, but for this excercise, I will be turning over the reins. As many of my colleagues have reminded me. I am telling it what to do and it is just doing it faster and more efficiently for me. So, I have allowed it to do parts of the paper. By leveraging ChatGPT, professionals can generate reports, draft emails, and even automate responses, significantly reducing workload and increasing efficiency.

1. Smart Task Automation

Monday.com’s AI automatically assigns work orders, sends follow-ups, and categorizes tasks based on urgency. An example of how it assists me is when a client submits a service request, the platform identifies the best-suited technician based on skillset, workload, and availability—eliminating manual delegation.

2. Predictive Data and Insights

AI-driven dashboards analyze work patterns and forecast potential bottlenecks. For instance, I can see trends in technician assignments, identify who might be overburdened, and adjust workloads accordingly. This level of insight was previously unimaginable without hours of spreadsheet analysis.

3. Real-Time Collaboration

With Monday.com’s AI, all stakeholders—technicians, managers, and clients—have real-time access to updates. When a technician completes a task, the system automatically logs work hours, updates project statuses, and even initiates payroll processing. For the past two year, I have been using Monday.com and never realized that it was AI technology at work.

4. AI-Powered Time Management

Before Monday.com, managing multiple projects required constant follow-ups, creating excel spreadsheets and costly errors. Now, AI-generated reminders and scheduling algorithms ensure that deadlines are met. If a task is overdue, the system proactively suggests alternative resources or timeline adjustments.

Principles for Mastering this New AI World

The following principles stood out to me during the class lecture, and I have committed to applying them along my journey. I encourage you to do the same.

3 Steps to Maximizing My Learning

  1. Learn tools & techniques
  2. Learn with real-world applications
  3. Amplify my impact by sharing what I’ve learned

How Do I Share It?

I believe and have committed to sharing insights with a broader audience, including fellow professionals, aspiring AI learners, and business leaders. My preferred platforms for discussion are My Personal Blog, LinkedIn, industry forums, and professional blogs like Substack. I also learned that engaging in conversations about AI-driven efficiency fosters learning and adaptation in this rapidly evolving field.

Who Do I Share It With?

  • Business Owners, Managers & Friends: To illustrate how AI-powered tools can streamline operations and their lives.
  • AI Enthusiasts & Learners: To provide real-world examples of AI implementation in business workflows.
  • Traditional Workforce Transitioning into AI: To encourage professionals hesitant about AI adoption to embrace its advantages.

From What Perspective?

As someone who has had a front seat observing decades of technological evolution, I approach AI with a mix of curiosity, caution, and enthusiasm. The integration of AI tools like Monday.com has accelerated my productivity, eliminated repetitive tasks, and improved decision-making. However, it is not without challenges and there is still a lot of unknowns with the technology.

One of the downsides I encountered is that full integration requires skill and time. While Monday.com’s AI can handle many processes, some manual setup and customization are necessary. So there is still a require specialization and learning curve to the platform. Additionally, not all vendors provide open APIs, making it difficult to seamlessly integrate certain external tools.

The Future of AI in Business

Despite the challenges, AI-driven platforms like Monday.com are becoming indispensable. As AI continues to evolve, businesses must embrace change, adapt, and leverage AI tools to stay competitive.
